9 OFWs rescued from Myanmar human trafficking return to PH

Nine overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have safely returned to the Philippines after being rescued from a human trafficking situation in Myanmar.

The OFWs arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 on Sunday and were met by officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Upon arrival, the rescued OFWs received immediate financial aid and welfare support.

They are set to report to the DMW in January 2026 for further legal assistance and case management.

The victims were reportedly lured by social media job advertisements offering high salaries for chat support roles, only to be forced into working in cyber-scam operations under severe conditions.

The Philippine government is actively collaborating with Thailand and Myanmar to dismantle the trafficking syndicates responsible.

Since 2022, the DMW has recorded close to 2,000 Filipino victims rescued from scam hubs in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos.
