52 Filipino trafficking victims repatriated from Laos

A total of 52 Filipino human trafficking victims have been repatriated to the Philippines from Laos in three batches.

These victims were lured with promises of customer service jobs but were forced to work for scam syndicates.

The first batch of nine individuals arrived on August 25, followed by 23 on August 28, and the latest group of 20 on August 29.

The victims were among the 73 Filipino nationals rescued from scam syndicates at the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Laos.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is collecting affidavits to identify recruiters and is coordinating with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to file charges.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) assured that the government will continue to monitor and assist OFWs in similar situations.
