16 foreigners charged with trafficking at POGO hub

Sixteen out of 169 foreign nationals apprehended in a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, have been charged with qualified trafficking.

The foreigners, including 69 Indonesians, 93 Chinese, 6 Burmese, and 1 Malaysian, were arrested on August 31 during a raid on the POGO hub for alleged scamming activities.

Authorities identified the 16 alleged traffickers as recruiters based on the statements of other foreign nationals.

The NBI Central Visayas Regional Director stated that the passports of these foreign nationals were confiscated, restricting their freedom to leave the country.

Those charged opted to submit the case for resolution after being assisted by lawyers from the DOJ's Public Attorney's Office (PAO) during inquest proceedings.
