6 injured in Maguindanao school explosion during elections

Six individuals were injured in an explosion at a covered court in Datu Piang National High School, Maguindanao, while waiting to vote on election day.

In Datu Unsay town, Maguindanao, nine individuals, including four minors, were injured in grenade launcher explosions on the eve of the elections.

Two other grenade explosions were reported in Shariff Aguak town, but no injuries were reported.

As polling began in Buluan town, Maguindanao, three members of the barangay police died from a hail of bullets near the Datu Luminog Pilot Elementary School, with a fourth victim critically injured.

A political supporter was killed in Pandag town, Maguindanao, when the car being used by mayoral candidate Toy Mangudadatu was riddled with bullets.

Two other people were shot and wounded in the village of Tamoktaka in Cotabato City.

Two strafing incidents were reported in Sumisip and Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, where schools were rained with bullets, but no one was hurt.

Police believe a single group is responsible for the bombings in both Datu Unsay and Shariff Aguak.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte commented that such election-related violence in Maguindanao and other Mindanao provinces was anticipated due to political rivalries.
