47 Delta variant cases recorded in 9 NCR cities

A total of 47 Delta variant cases have been recorded in nine cities in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

The affected cities are Malabon (4 cases), Makati (3 cases), San Juan (2 cases), Las Piñas (14 cases), Valenzuela (1 case), Pasig (6 cases), Mandaluyong (2 cases), Manila (11 cases), and Caloocan (4 cases).

As of August 1, nine out of 17 local government units in NCR had at least one patient infected with the Delta variant.

The DOH flagged the NCR, Central Visayas, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Northern Mindanao for having a high-risk classification.

The country's total number of Delta cases is 216, with 165 local cases and 48 returning overseas Filipinos.

Metro Manila was averaging 1,535 new COVID-19 cases daily as of August 2, a 65% increase from the previous week.

The healthcare utilization rate in Metro Manila is classified as low risk, with 47% of total COVID-19 beds occupied and 55% of ICU beds in use.

Pateros and Malabon have been designated critical-risk areas due to high case growth rates and daily attack rates.

All other Metro Manila cities were classified as high-risk, except for Marikina and Caloocan.
