Court orders arrest of 29 cops over 2022 shabu controversy

A Manila court has ordered the arrest of 29 police officers, both active and former, over alleged irregularities in the P6.7-billion shabu controversy in Tondo in 2022.

The officers face charges for planting evidence and bungling the prosecution of drug cases under Republic Act No. 9165.

Among those ordered arrested are retired police lieutenant general Benjamin Santos Jr. and former PNP Drug Enforcement Group chief Police Brigadier General Narciso Domingo, implicated in the staged arrest of M/Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo.

The court set bail at P200,000 for each of the officers.

Of the 29 implicated, 20 are still on active duty, including five commissioned officers.

The court directed law enforcers to use body-worn cameras and alternative recording devices during the arrest.

Mayo's arrest was linked to the seizure of 990 kilos of shabu, of which 400 kilos were allegedly withheld and resold by police for P2.4 billion, with approximately 307 kilos remaining unaccounted for.
