17 cops in P6.7-B drug haul case arrested

Seventeen out of 29 active and former police officers facing arrest warrants in connection with the P6.7-billion drug haul in Manila in 2022 are now in police custody.

The two most recent arrests occurred in Pasay City.

CIDG chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III confirmed that 17 individuals are currently detained, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining officers.

Some of the police officers still at large have indicated their intention to surrender to authorities.

This development follows the filing of criminal charges against 30 police officers, including two generals, for alleged violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, related to the alleged planting of evidence and bungling of prosecution.

The PNP has created Task Force 29 to go after the officers.

An ongoing PNP-wide investigation into drug hauls dating back to 2016 has been announced by Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
