2 CCPO cops die of COVID-19

Two police officers from the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) passed away due to COVID-19, with contact tracing indicating they contracted the virus while on duty.

The two deceased officers succumbed to the virus hours apart in separate city hospitals.

One of the fallen officers was an operative of the Abellana Police Station, and the other was part of the Crisis Response Battalion team.

The Abellana officer experienced fever, cough, diarrhea, and nausea, while the Crisis Response Battalion officer tested positive after being admitted for a motorcycle accident, with symptoms noted prior to the incident.

The CCPO has pledged to cover the hospital expenses of the deceased officers and ensure their cremation within 12 hours.

Despite these fatalities, CCPO leadership affirmed that the morale of the police force remains high, emphasizing their commitment as frontliners.

As of June 13, Cebu City had recorded 3,434 COVID-19 cases, with 1,858 recoveries and 37 deaths; specifically, 27 police officers in Cebu City have been reported to have COVID-19.
