Seventeen public schools have become beneficiaries of satellite-based internet through a partnership between the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
This initiative, part of the "Digital Bayanihan" program, aims to boost internet connectivity in remote areas and addresses President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s concern over low internet penetration.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda stated that the program is a real service being felt in the farthest reaches of the country.
The DICT, in collaboration with DepEd and local government units, is working to connect schools nationwide, with 17 remote schools across various regions now having Starlink internet connectivity.
Schools in Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Batanes, Bulacan, Quezon, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Bicol, and Iloilo are among the initial recipients.
