Sen. Zubiri tests positive for COVID-19 again, skips SONA

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri tested positive for COVID-19 again on Monday, July 27, forcing him to skip President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) and go into quarantine.

Despite three rapid tests showing negative results, a confirmatory swab test revealed he was still positive for the virus, though doctors suggested it might have detected remnants of dead virus cells from his previous infection in March.

Zubiri had recovered by mid-April but remained asymptomatic. He will continue to work virtually until receiving consecutive negative results post-quarantine.
