Army soldier killed in clash with NPA during coronavirus patrol

A member of the Philippine Army, Private First-Class Mark Nemis, was killed in a clash with NPA rebels in Lambunao town, Iloilo on Tuesday morning.

The 24-year-old soldier died from a gunshot wound to the head during a 20-minute firefight while conducting security patrol and coronavirus awareness drive.

Nemis' unit, the 301st Infantry Brigade, recovered an M16 long magazine, ammunition, and documents with intelligence value from the site.

The Army accused the NPA of extorting from local residents.
