WHO: Omicron to replace Delta as dominant variant

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated on Friday that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is very likely to replace the Delta variant as the dominant strain in the Philippines.

Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, WHO country representative for the Philippines, noted that while little is known about the severity of Omicron, it should not be underestimated given its rapid spread in countries like the UK.

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed two imported cases of Omicron in the Philippines on Wednesday.
