Chinese warship targets PH Navy ship in West Philippine Sea

On February 17, a Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessel pointed its gun control director at the Philippine Navy ship BRP Conrado Yap in the West Philippine Sea.

The incident occurred during the BRP Conrado Yap's territorial defense operations and sovereignty patrol near Malampaya Natural Gas facility and Kalayaan Island Group.

Vice Admiral Rene Medina of AFP Wescom confirmed the hostile act, describing it as a violation of international law and Philippine sovereignty.

The Philippine Navy vessel had issued a radio challenge to the unidentified gray vessel before identifying it as PLAN Corvette 514.
