Ateneo beats UE 3-2 in men's tennis, extends unbeaten streak

Ateneo de Manila University extended its unbeaten streak in the UAAP Season 86 men's tennis tournament with a narrow 3-2 victory over the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors on Wednesday.

Rookie John David Velez played a crucial role, defeating Marc Suscon, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5, to secure the win for Ateneo after losing the first set.

Ateneo head coach Gee Abacan praised Velez's performance despite facing tough competition in the third set and highlighted the team's resilience against UE.

The Blue Eagles led early with wins from Noy Seno and Nio Tria, and Axl Gonzaga, but UE fought back to tie the score before Velez clinched the victory.

Ateneo now shares the lead at 2-0 with defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST), which defeated the University of the Philippines, 4-1, earlier in the day.
