FAMAS apologizes, faces backlash over Eva Darren removal

The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) issued a public apology on Sunday, May 26, after actress Eva Darren was reportedly removed as a presenter at the 72nd FAMAS Awards ceremony.

Celebrities like Cedrick Juan and Rita Avila expressed dismay over FAMAS's decision to remove Darren, while Divina Valencia, who is Eva Darren’s godmother, criticized the organization for its treatment of Darren and called their excuse unacceptable.

Valencia urged old-timer press people to respond to her statement, emphasizing that damage has been done despite repeated apologies from FAMAS. She also demanded that FAMAS reimburse Darren for expenses incurred, including a P5,000 per plate dinner and other costs such as transportation and clothing.

Valencia further accused the organization of giving awards to individuals who are not in show business and questioned their motives behind these actions, highlighting the lack of ethics within FAMAS.

The veteran actress also called for personal apologies from FAMAS members to Darren and her family, emphasizing that mere calls or messages would not suffice.
