UP Diliman suspends classes for EDSA anniversary, Marcos declares special working day

The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman has joined UP Cebu and UP Los Baños in suspending classes on February 25 to commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary.

In contrast, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. downgraded the celebration to a 'special working day' through Presidential Proclamation 727.

Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II of UP Diliman instructed that all undergraduate and graduate classes will be suspended in various teaching modes on February 25.

UP Cebu Chancellor Leo Malagar stated that this day serves as an opportunity for reflection and honoring the values of freedom, unity, and social justice.

The University System regents have appealed to President Angelo Jimenez to declare February 25 a non-working holiday across all UP campuses.

Jimenez issued an administrative order encouraging meaningful participation in activities that honor the 'spirit of unity, freedom, and civil liberties' on this day.
