Cebu City mayor declines suspension for Edsa anniversary

Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia declined to declare a suspension of classes and work for the 39th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution on February 25.

Despite President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s declaration of the day as a special working holiday, Garcia left the decision to individual entities based on no specific recommendation from disaster management or higher authorities.

Several schools in Cebu City independently cancelled classes to commemorate the event, including the University of San Carlos and other educational institutions.

Local governments in Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, and Mandaue implemented varying policies regarding class suspensions while maintaining regular work operations.

Lapu-Lapu Mayor Junard Chan advised students to stay home for modular learning, while Talisay Mayor Samsam Gullas allowed private schools discretion on their class schedules.
