UP volleyball team beats UE in straight sets, rises to solo second

University of the Philippines defeated University of the East in straight sets, winning 25-15, 25-16, and 25-22 to rise to solo second place in the V-League Women's Collegiate Challenge on Wednesday at Paco Arena.

Kianne Olango led UP with 14 points, including three blocks, while captain Nica Celis contributed 11 points.

UP coach Oliver Almadro noted that his team is still developing cohesiveness and needs to maximize the strengths of its rookie players, who currently make up around 70 percent of the squad.

Key plays from Mikaela Magsombol and Kassandra Doering helped UP regain control in the third set after UE took a 20-19 lead.

UP's next challenge will be against undefeated University of Santo Tomas on September 11 at 3 p.m., while UE aims to bounce back against the Lady Tamaraws on August 25 at noon.
