Typhoon Aghon causes PHP1B damage, displaces over 41K families

Typhoon Aghon has caused over PHP1 billion in damage to agriculture, infrastructure, and affected more than 41,000 families across seven regions.

Infrastructure damage reached PHP942.5 million while agricultural losses were reported at PHP85.6 million in Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions.

The typhoon damaged approximately 7,600 houses, with 6,907 classified as partially damaged and 752 as totally destroyed.

A total of 41,105 families or 152,266 individuals were affected across various regions including Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and the National Capital Region.

The confirmed death toll from Typhoon Aghon now stands at eight people -- five in Calabarzon and one each in Northern Mindanao and another region.

Nineteen cities and municipalities were placed under a state of calamity following the typhoon's impact. Additionally, 600 typhoon victims are still staying in evacuation centers with 2,220 others displaced elsewhere.
