Over 8M affected by STS Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon; PHP1.19B aid provided

Over eight million people across more than two million families were affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Leon in October.

As of November 5, 2024, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that PHP1.19 billion worth of assistance has been provided to over 2.2 million families affected by the storms.

Of those impacted, 194,272 people were staying in evacuation centers while another 517,705 individuals were sheltering elsewhere due to floods, landslides, and strong winds.

The reported death toll has been revised down to 148, with only 20 deaths validated so far, and there are still 21 missing persons under investigation.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared November 4 as a Day of National Mourning in solidarity with the victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, which resulted in significant damage including 217,425 damaged houses and estimated losses of PHP8.24 billion for infrastructure and PHP4.88 billion for agriculture.
