St. Benilde beats Mapua 78-65; Tony Ynot shines in debut

St. Benilde secured a comeback victory against Mapua with a score of 78-65 in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament on Saturday, September 7.

Tony Ynot, who transferred from San Beda for his debut game with St. Benilde, made significant contributions by scoring nine points, grabbing five rebounds, dishing out eight assists, and stealing four balls, leading the team to a decisive win.

Coach Charles Tiu expressed surprise at Ynot's performance, noting that he had not fully appreciated the player’s capabilities during his time at San Beda due to focusing on other players like James Kwekuteye and JB Bahio.

Ynot played a crucial role in sealing St. Benilde's victory with key baskets down the stretch after Mapua held a lead with just over five minutes left, contributing to an 18-2 run that secured the win.

Allen Liwag also had a strong performance for St. Benilde with a double-double of 23 points and 18 rebounds, while Gab Cometa added 17 points in support of Ynot's standout play.
