Sulu donates rice and dry goods to storm victims in Luzon

On Friday evening, 2,000 sacks of rice and 1,000 cases of dry goods donated by the provincial government of Sulu arrived at Villamor Air Base via a Philippine Air Force C-130 aircraft to support victims of recent tropical cyclones in Luzon.

The relief effort was organized in partnership with the Philippine Army's (PA) 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Orion, aiming to reach far-flung communities hit hardest by flooding and storm damage.

Vice Governor Abdusakur Tan stated that this initiative is a way for Suluños to show solidarity with fellow Filipinos affected by recent calamities.

According to preliminary damage estimates, the storms have caused P5.2 billion in infrastructure losses and P1.1 billion in agricultural damages, resulting in 26 deaths, 10 injuries, and 8 missing individuals.

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. thanked Governor Tan for the donation, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and compassion during times of adversity.

The government continues to distribute aid worth around P291 million, with additional relief supplies arriving from Sulu in the coming days to ensure adequate assistance for those affected.
