Suarez eyes world title against Navarrete

Former national amateur boxing standout Charly Suarez, who turned pro at age 30, is set to challenge World Boxing Organization titlist Emmanuel Navarrete on May 10 in San Diego for his first world title opportunity.

Suarez, now 36 and with a record of 18-0 (10 KOs), sees this fight as an answered prayer despite the skepticism surrounding his age.

Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis 'Chavit' Singson, who now manages Suarez's career, negotiated the bout with Top Rank Inc., which promotes both fighters.

Suarez and his team have a game plan in place, including sparring partners similar to Navarrete's style and physique.

Facing a formidable opponent with a record of 39-2-1 (32 KOs), Suarez aims to avenge Filipino boxers who previously lost to Navarrete while maintaining a positive mindset.
