Students walk out nationwide to mark Edsa People Power anniversary

The Office of the Student Regent at Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) organized a mass walkout on Tuesday, February 25, to mark the 39th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution.

Student regent Kim Modelo called for the protest after PUP's administration refused to declare February 25 as a holiday and clad in black shirts with placards demanding accountability and transparency, students marched from their classrooms to the main gate.

In addition to PUP, around 100 University of the Philippines (UP) Tacloban students also walked out of classes to protest Malacanang's decision not to declare February 25 a holiday.

Students in Iloilo rallied outside the provincial capitol with multi-sectoral groups joining the march, while in Negros Occidental, FedUp laid flowers at the Ninoy Aquino Monument and held a caravan for a Mass.

Schools across the Visayas region, including UP Cebu, University of San Carlos, and several others in Iloilo and Bohol, suspended classes to commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution.
