Sports stars vie in Philippine elections

Several sports personalities participated in the 2025 Philippine elections for various national and local positions held on Monday.

Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao ran for a Senate seat but failed to secure one of the top twelve spots based on partial results.

Bowling athlete Tito Sotto and former volleyball player Pia Cayetano were leading in their bids for Senate seats as of early Tuesday morning.

In San Juan City, former PBA players Francis Zamora and Philip Cezar competed for mayor; Zamora won his third term with 57,998 votes.

James Yap, Don Allado, Renren Ritualo, and Vergel Meneses also secured council seats or mayoral positions in their respective cities.

Dodot Jaworski was proclaimed vice-mayor of Pasig alongside Vico Sotto, while Franz Pumaren won a congressional seat in Quezon City's third district.
