SMC transfers hog inventory to local raisers

San Miguel Corp.'s (SMC) San Miguel Foods unit plans to transfer its nationwide hog inventory and facilities to local raisers to improve biosecurity practices against African Swine Fever (ASF) and stabilize pork supply.

The move aims to provide smallholder farmers a chance to thrive during the pandemic and encourage more farmers to raise hogs locally.

SMC President Ramon Ang said this reorganization will help bring down pork prices by reducing logistics costs, as slaughterhouses will be closer to hog-raising communities.
