Sara Duterte impeachment complainants seek SC reconsideration

Six citizen complainants who filed an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte have submitted a motion for reconsideration to the Supreme Court regarding its ruling that declared the articles of impeachment unconstitutional.

Tindig Pilipinas co-convenor Sylvia Claudio told the media that they disagree with the SC's decision and are seeking legal status based on their previous request to hold oral arguments before the court, arguing that the first complaint did not get referred to the House Committee on Justice.

Claudio and other petitioners believe that focusing on technicalities reverses the spirit of the Constitution, which aims to hold officials accountable, and called for the Senate to continue the impeachment trial despite the SC ruling.

Akbayan party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña signed the motion for reconsideration as movant-intervenor, supporting Senators pushing for an impeachment trial.

Various groups plan mass actions, including a demonstration at the Senate on August 6 to address the SC's decision regarding Duterte's impeachment case.
