Singapore PM Lawrence Wong meets President Marcos Jr., discusses health, climate, trade

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong arrived in Manila for his first official visit to the Philippines on Wednesday, June 4, following an invitation by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

During a ceremonial welcome at Malacañang Palace, Wong and Marcos Jr. held bilateral talks focusing on areas such as health, climate change mitigation, civil service cooperation, trade, investment, security, and defense cooperation.

The meeting aims to discuss political and economic issues relevant to the region, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of their nations' partnership in today's changing geopolitical environment.

Wong also led a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument earlier in the day, marking 56 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the Philippines.

The visit highlights the two countries' commitment to advancing peace and cooperation in Southeast Asia, with discussions on new areas such as the green economy and support for the Philippines hosting the ASEAN Summit in 2026.
