Floods displace families in Davao de Oro, Davao region

Flooding caused by rains brought by a shear line or tail-end of a frontal system has affected several barangays in Davao de Oro and other parts of the Davao region, displacing local residents.

In Mawab municipality, 27 families were affected in Sitio Estabillo and 11 more in Barangay Nueva Visayas; seven families were displaced in Purok 2 of Barangay Nuevo Iloco, while two families were impacted in Sitio Tabontabon of Barangay Bawani.

Floodwaters reached nearly roof-high levels in Poblacion, Compostela, Davao de Oro, where residents used inflatable beds as floating devices and cars remained stranded on roads.

The Mawab Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office conducted rescue operations in Poblacion, Andili and Sawangan, while the Philippine Coast Guard rescued individuals from two barangays in Maco, Davao de Oro.

Around 143 individuals or 38 families in Barangay Poblacion were evacuated to the barangay gymnasium, while a landslide was recorded in Barangay Sawangan affecting 200 homes and Road KM67 in Barangay Tuburan which has since reopened.

No casualties have been reported from these flood events as of Tuesday.
