Shear line causes 16 deaths, affects over 768K people in Davao and Caraga

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Tuesday that 16 people died due to severe weather caused by a shear line affecting Davao and Caraga regions.

As of now, 10 deaths have been confirmed with five injuries, while six additional fatalities are still being verified in the affected areas.

The total number of families affected has risen to 173,875, impacting 768,387 individuals across 449 barangays. Of these, 876 families or 2,770 persons remain in evacuation centers while 4,446 are receiving support outside.

Government assistance has amounted to PHP62.57 million, including medicines, food packs, hygiene kits, and other essential items.

Damage includes 419 damaged homes, infrastructure damage of PHP27.05 million in Davao alone, and agriculture losses totaling PHP78.11 million in the two regions.
