Serbian player loses kidney after elbow hit in FIBA World Cup

Serbian player Borisa Simanic lost one of his kidneys after being elbowed by South Sudan's Nuni Omot during their FIBA World Cup game on August 30.

Simanic underwent surgery twice, with doctors deciding to remove the kidney due to complications from the first operation.

Nuni Omot apologized for the elbow hit and expressed deep regret over Simanic's injury.

Inspired by Simanic's absence, Serbia advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2014 after defeating Lithuania in an 87-68 rout on Tuesday.
