Senate suspends work Jan 13 for INC rally

The Senate announced on Friday that it will suspend work on January 13, Monday, due to the Iglesia ni Cristo's National Rally for Peace at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero instructed this suspension following a Memorandum Circular issued by the Office of the President earlier today, aligning with the directive suspending classes and government work in Manila and Pasay City.

The rally is expected to draw up to one million attendees, prompting road closures near the Quirino Grandstand and work suspensions in government offices in Manila and Pasay cities.

Sessions at the Senate will resume on January 14 at 3 p.m., while personnel from the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms and Maintenance and General Services Bureau are exempted from the suspension.

The rally comes amid ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, who welcomed the complaints as an opportunity to address allegations against her.

Meanwhile, the INC previously stated that the rally will be an expression of support for President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.'s opposition to the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
