Congress opens for third regular session, prepares for SONA

The third regular session of the 19th Congress opened on Monday in the Philippines ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address.

Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero marked the opening with a gavel strike at 10:05 AM, and all 23 senators were present for the first red carpet walk prepared by the Senate this session.

The body adopted proposed Resolution No. 1062 to inform the President of its presence and functions, and House Concurrent Resolution No. 27 to hold a joint session for the SONA.

Senator Imee Marcos led the opening prayer, asking for protection for Vice President Sara Duterte and success for her brother, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., while also praying for wisdom and courage for the Senate to fight for the welfare of the people.

Among those in attendance were Cabinet secretaries from various departments and Comelec Chairman George Garcia.
