Senate impeachment court gets House prosecutors' reply rejecting VP Sara's jurisdiction claim

On Friday, the Senate impeachment court received the House prosecutors' reply to Vice President Sara Duterte's defense filing.

Duterte had argued that returning the Articles of Impeachment to the House means the Senate no longer has jurisdiction over the case, but prosecutors rejected this claim, insisting that the Senate retains its authority despite procedural issues raised by Duterte’s team.

The prosecution also asserted that pending matters and proceedings can carry over to the 20th Congress, contrary to Duterte's argument based on a Supreme Court ruling.

Furthermore, the prosecution called for sanctions against Duterte for making false or misleading arguments, emphasizing her deceitful approach in the case.

Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, who heads the prosecution panel, signed the reply along with other key members of the House.
