Senate debates UN resolution on WPS sovereignty

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri says a Senate resolution reaffirming the Philippines' sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea (WPS) before the UN General Assembly will highlight China's unlawful incursions.

Senator Risa Hontiveros argues that a UN resolution could complement the Philippines' arbitral victory against China, while Senator Alan Cayetano opposes elevating the issue to the UN.

Hontiveros filed Resolution 659 urging the DFA to sponsor a UNGA resolution calling on China to stop harassing Philippine vessels, but it was blocked by Cayetano.
