Senate investigates ex-Mayor Guo's alleged escape to Malaysia

The Senate has tasked its Committee on Justice and Human Rights, led by Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, along with the Committees on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, and Public Services, to investigate the alleged escape of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.

Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros will lead a subcommittee formed by Pimentel to hear this particular subject matter.

Guo is believed to have left the Philippines for Malaysia on July 18 and is currently in Indonesia, according to recent revelations from the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The BI is now tracing Guo's movements to identify those involved in her travel, while Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has warned that heads will roll if any personnel are found complicit.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated an investigation into Guo’s departure is underway and emphasized that the incident undermines public trust in the justice system.
