Sen Villanueva files resol to honor Alex Eala for Top 100 WTA

Senator Joel Villanueva has filed Senate Resolution No. 1330 to honor tennis player Alexandra 'Alex' Eala for her remarkable performance at the 2025 Miami Open.

Eala, a 19-year-old athlete, became the first Filipino woman to enter the Top 100 of the Women's Tennis Association World Rankings after securing Rank 75 following her semifinal appearance in Miami.

During the tournament, Eala defeated three former Grand Slam champions—Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Świątek without dropping a set—and reached the semifinals where she lost to Jessica Pegula in three sets.

Villanueva emphasized that Eala's achievements serve as an inspiration to young athletes nationwide and underscore the importance of supporting Filipino talent on a global scale.

Before turning professional, Eala also won multiple accolades including the 2023 Asian Games bronze medal in mixed doubles, the 2022 US Open girls singles title, and several other junior titles.
