Marcos Jr. congratulates Alex Eala for historic Miami Open run

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. congratulated Filipino tennis player Alex Eala for her historic run at the 2025 Miami Open, praising her determination and skill.

Eala defeated world No. 2 Iga Swiatek and other highly seeded opponents before losing to world No. 4 Jessica Pegula in a deciding third set on Friday, March 28.

The President highlighted Eala's performance as an inspiration to Filipinos, emphasizing her grit in defeating Grand Slam winners Iga Swiatek, Madison Keys, and Jelena Ostapenko.

With her semis stint, Eala is expected to earn prize money worth USD 332,160 and 390 ranking points, positioning her for entry into the WTA Top 100 and qualification for upcoming Grand Slam tournaments such as the French Open in May.

Already the highest-ranked Filipina tennis player at No. 134 in January, Eala will debut in the top 100 when the WTA releases its new rankings on Monday, March 31.

The PCO also highlighted that Eala's success came during Women's Month, recognizing her as a Filipina excelling on the global stage and bringing pride to the country.
