Sen Padilla files resolution to dismiss VP Duterte's impeachment case

Sen. Robinhood Padilla confirmed on Monday that he has filed a resolution seeking to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Padilla's Senate Resolution 1371 argues that all pending matters and proceedings will terminate upon the expiration of one Congress, which is set for Friday, June 13.

Former IBP President Atty. Domingo Cayosa on Tuesday said the Senate cannot dismiss the impeachment case through a Senate resolution, emphasizing the impracticality of completing the trial in just 19 days.

Cayosa urged senators to maintain impartiality and reminded them that their role as judges is clearly defined under the Constitution and jurisprudence.

The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on February 5 for alleged high crimes, including corruption and an assassination plot against former ally President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
