Ruth Castelo appointed OVP spox, replaces Atty. Michael Poa

Former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ruth Castelo has been appointed as the new spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

Castelo, who applied for a position at the OVP in early 2025 after being placed on 'floating status' at DTI under the Marcos administration, was confirmed in a press conference and will replace Atty. Michael Poa.

In her remarks, Castelo emphasized that she will not be an 'attack dog,' focusing instead on reporting accomplishments of Vice President Sara Duterte's office forthrightly without engaging in political attacks or offensive rhetoric.

Vice President Duterte instructed Castelo to convey messages about projects and programs directly, avoiding criticism. She also clarified that the case against her before the Office of the Ombudsman has been dismissed.

Castelo previously served as undersecretary for the Consumer Protection Group at DTI from 2018 to 2023 and was placed on floating status in 2023 following a complaint filed against her. She expressed her belief in Duterte's leadership and her desire to support her while returning what she believes the country deserves.
