OVP spox says VP Sara ready for presidency

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Wednesday dismissed claims that Vice President Sara Duterte is merely a 'spare tire' for President Marcos.

OVP spokesperson Ruth Castelo emphasized during a press conference that the VP should be as prepared to assume presidential responsibilities as the chief executive.

Castelo highlighted that according to the 1987 Constitution, the mandate of the Vice President is equivalent to that of the President, and withholding support or funding from the OVP would be detrimental to national interests.

She stressed that keeping the VP out of government loops could hinder their readiness to take over in case something happens to the president.

Castelo noted that Duterte's current initiatives through her office are part of her preparation for potential presidential duties until 2028, and any reduction or withholding of funding is a 'great disservice' to the country.
