Speaker Romualdez confident Senate will pass RBH6 constitutional amendments

Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed confidence on Friday that the Senate could muster the necessary votes to approve amendments to the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.

Romualdez cited Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri's leadership and ability to convince other senators, despite acknowledging the challenge in passing Resolution of Both Houses No. 6 (RBH6).

The House of Representatives expects the Senate to approve proposed amendments to the constitution's restrictive economic provisions, with Speaker Romualdez expressing faith in Senator Zubiri’s efforts.

Senate President Zubiri earlier said that getting the needed 18 votes for RBH7 is a 'big challenge' but 'not impossible', highlighting the ongoing discussions within the Senate.

Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera reiterated full support to amend the economic provisions, citing internal arrangements between local and foreign business partners as her main reason.

Herrera noted that discrepancies between official regulations and internal agreements often lead to legal disputes, underscoring the need for constitutional changes.
