Robredo urges gov't not to phase out traditional jeepneys amid pandemic

Vice President Leni Robredo urged the government to not phase out traditional jeepneys during the pandemic.

Robredo cited an IBON Foundation report stating that each jeepney driver has lost around P78,000 in income due to the shutdown of mass public transportation.

She criticized reports suggesting the government plans to use the pandemic as an opportunity to implement the controversial jeepney modernization program.

During her radio show, Robredo urged DOTr and LTFRB to be compassionate towards traditional jeepney drivers who remain out of work.

Robredo said the current terms of the modernization program favor those who can afford upgrades, leaving struggling owners at a disadvantage.
