Abarrientos performs well despite death threats

Ginebra's RJ Abarrientos received a death threat on social media after missing a potential game-tying shot during Game 2 of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals against Meralbo on Friday, February 7.

Despite the threats, which included targeting his fiancée and alleging he caused a financial loss, Abarrientos performed well in Ginebra's Game 3 victory over Meralbo on Sunday night, contributing 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal while dropping seven of his points in the fourth quarter to help secure a 13-point cushion for his team.

Abarrientos emphasized that it was difficult to handle the situation but managed to focus on the game with an efficient shooting percentage of 50 percent.

The PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial coordinated with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding the threats, and Abarrientos thanked them for their support.

Ginebra advanced to the semifinals after winning Game 3 and will face Northport in a best-of-seven series starting February 26.
