Rep Enverga calls for real-time rice price monitoring

Quezon 1st district Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga emphasized the need for heightened price monitoring on rice during the upcoming harvest season from March to May.

Enverga proposed a real-time digital price monitoring system to ensure transparency and prevent manipulation of farm gate prices, which can harm both farmers and consumers.

The congressman urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) and National Food Authority (NFA) to step up their price monitoring activities and intervene in price stabilization by purchasing at least 20 percent of locally produced rice this harvest season.

Previous hearings highlighted significant discrepancies between the farm gate price of palay and retail prices, suggesting that there are issues in the supply chain.

Enverga recommended creating a real-time digital price monitoring system to inform consumers and producers about the range of rice prices, aiming to reduce artificially inflated prices.
