PSC appoints Gregorio to boost sports, partnerships

John Patrick Gregorio was appointed as the new Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman with clear instructions from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve facilities, support athletes, and promote healthy citizens.

During his first week in office, Gregorio emphasized plans to expand partnerships with the private sector to institutionalize corporate sponsorships that have supported Filipino athletes in recent Olympic successes.

He cited the success of athletes in the last two Olympics as evidence of the positive impact of such collaborations and aims to create a national sports foundation where companies can directly manage their contributions.

Gregorio also plans to meet with athletes and officials to discuss introducing 'national championships' for every sport, aiming to ensure continuous athletic development from youth programs through university levels.

The PSC chief expressed optimism about launching this initiative as early as the first quarter of 2026 and highlighted his focus on improving athletes' welfare including nutrition and allowance access.
