PNP launches 100-day security plan for midterms

The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Friday that it has intensified its preparations for the 2025 midterm elections with a 100-day security plan, which began Feb. 5.

Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil emphasized the importance of proactive measures to ensure voter safety and protect voting centers from threats as the 90-day campaign period for senators and party-list representatives kicks off on February 11.

Under this plan, additional police personnel will be deployed in areas designated as election hotspots, categorized into yellow, orange, and red based on past incidents and potential risks.

Yellow areas are those with suspected election-related issues but without involvement of domestic terror groups, while orange areas face serious armed threats from such groups; the highest level of threat is found in red areas which combine factors from both categories.

The PNP aims to dismantle private armed groups, pursue wanted individuals, and intensify operations against unregistered firearms during this period, ensuring that any actions inciting violence or undermining the electoral process will be met with full legal consequences.
