Pilipinas Aguilas win historic WMPBL title, league turns pro

The Pilipinas Aguilas secured a historic victory in the inaugural Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League tournament with a decisive 54-45 win over University of Santo Tomas in Game 3 on Wednesday night.

Immediately after winning the championship, the WMPBL announced its intention to turn professional, marking a significant milestone for women’s basketball in the Philippines.

Mar Prado scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds with three blocks and three steals, while Alexis Pana contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and five steals, earning Finals MVP honors for her outstanding performance throughout the series.

Head coach Paulo Layug praised his team's diverse backgrounds and character, highlighting their resilience and determination in securing the championship title.

Cheska Apag added 13 points with four rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Kent Pastrana had eight points, five rebounds, and three assists for the Aguilas.
