Phivolcs raises Kanlaon Volcano alert to Level 3 after eruption

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Kanlaon Volcano, located on Negros Island, to Alert Level 3 following an explosive eruption on December 9.

Kanlaon has shown continuous seismic activity since June but was previously at Alert Level 2 until the recent upgrade.

The move to Alert Level 3 indicates that a magmatic eruption has begun and could lead to further explosive eruptions.
