Mary Jane Veloso set to return home after maintaining innocence for 14 years

Mary Jane Veloso, an overseas Filipino worker sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking in 2010, is set to return home after maintaining her innocence throughout the ordeal.

Veloso claims she was deceived into unknowingly carrying a bag containing drugs by Christine, her neighbor and friend who offered her employment in Malaysia but lacked funds for travel expenses.

According to Veloso's account shared with Rappler, Christine provided her with a suspiciously heavy bag before departure which later contained illegal substances upon arrival at an Indonesian airport.

Veloso was arrested immediately after customs officials discovered the drugs hidden within her luggage and has since faced significant international attention and support from Filipinos who believe in her innocence.

The case highlights diplomatic efforts to secure Veloso's release, reflecting broader public sentiment regarding her situation.
